Why do you want to work in childcare?

Why do you want to work in childcare is a question often asked of successful childcare workers and while their answers are many and varied there are some common reasons that keep recurring. If you’ve been trying to figure out exactly what the answer is to the question why do you want to work with children, then these common benefits of working as a childcare educator are sure to help.

If these reasons resonate with you, then you should consider a career in childcare.

7 Benefits of working as a childcare educator

The role of an early childhood educator is not only enjoyable, it delivers many wonderful benefits that other professions may not offer. Let’s take a close look at some of the reasons why working in childcare is so popular.

Make a real difference

There are not a lot of careers where you get to have a significant impact upon people’s lives. Taking on the role of an educator in early childhood puts you in a unique and some would say, privileged position to make a real difference in young people’s lives.

Every day at work you are able to watch children’s development and learning as children respond positively to your care and teaching. The parents of many families find themselves reliant upon  childcare workers to care for their children while they work. Enjoying and respecting that trust is something that few vocations offer.

Great work/life balance

Working as a childcare educator doesn’t necessarily mean that you are going to be another nine to five worker. The great thing about the childcare industry is  that many positions have a range

of flexible hours. So matter what demands there may be in your personal life, there will be a childcare position that suits your lifestyle and gives you the work/life balance that you need.

Mould young minds.

There is nothing more rewarding than responding to a child’s natural curiosity and answering the range of questions about almost anything that they can think of. If there is one answer to why work with children, then the opportunity to mould and shape young minds may be it.

Working with children is literally working with the future. The early ears are critical learning and formative years. Being in a position to have a positive impact upon many children’s lives is a huge responsibility and a wonderful opportunity.

High Demand

There is a huge demand for child care services, meaning that the opportunities for work and advancement are many. WIth continued government support for childcare and a seemingly ever growing demand for childcare services, a career in child care seems to be full of opportunities for many years to come.

Creativity Encouraged

To motivate, inspire and educate young minds is a joyous occupation. However, there may be times when you’ll need to think outside the box to create an interesting and engaging environment. Whereas many occupations stifle creativity that can never be said of a career in childcare as creativity is a necessary vital part of the job.

Constant turnover of young minds to shape

Variety is the spice of life and that’s certainly true of a role in childcare. As children grow and develop they move through the childcare system and are replaced by new faces and minds. The amazing thing is that each child is different. This constant flow of young fertile minds through your workplace helps to keep you enthused and  refreshed for the days and weeks ahead.

Not your typical working hours

The straight jacket traditional working hours of  9am-5pm simply don;t work for everyone anymore. With the demands for childcare becoming greater as working schedules become less stringent and more flexible,, opportunities to work even full time outside the traditional working hours are becoming more prevalent.

Current needs for child care commence in the early morning hours and run right through to a parent’s dinner time. This offers childcare workers the opportunity to work  a range of shifts to cater for these varying demands.

The children themselves are the ultimate reason

No two days will ever be the same when you’re working with children. To say that each child is unique doesn’t do them justice.  They are capable of making you laugh one minute and have you tearing your hair out with frustration the next, but whatever they’re doing they’re being genuine and trying to navigate their way through this world. You can be right there everyday, watching them grow and develop as they learn to make their way in the world. It is a privilege to be part of that.

Interactions with children are always genuine. That’s largely because children really appreciate  having company – and they do so or the right reasons. Company gives them the opportunity to relate to others either through play or at times some form of nurturing activity.  This natural  interaction is something that you get to enjoy and gain emotionally from and get paid for it. That’s not a bad deal at all.

Working with young people of any age is a rewarding and challenging experience, if you think you have the right attributes for working in child care there are plenty of opportunities to do so.
